I have done my very best
at doing everything I can and
What I’ve learned from my mistakes
Is that I’ll make ‘ em all again
I’m too young to offer wisdom
I’m too old to start again
Guess I’ll wing it til they bury me amen
I have made my share of promises
And sure I’ve broken some
They say if I apply myself to something I’d become
A little more like them and a little less like me
But oh what fun would that be?
I’ve been trying all my life
Still I can’t write a pretty song
But I’m hoping by the time
I’m 85 I’ll think of one
So I’m sitting by the window
Just a rocking in my chair
And I’m trying to hit a note that I don’t hear
I had always thought that lady luck
Would come right to my door
Turns out overnight success
Can take a couple years or more
It’s easier to quit and punch the clock five days a week
But oh what fun would that be?
I’ve been spending all my cash
And all my time just like a fool
Making sure that when I’m dead and gone
My money’s all gone too
I can’t live in moderation
I got bigger things in mind
So it’s all or nothing every single time
There are nights that I don’t sleep at all
And times i sleep for days
And if I got to meet a younger me
I wouldn’t say a thing
Yeah I could stop the heartache he is surely bound to see
But oh what fun would that be?
I’ve been sitting and a wondering
And staring at the sky
Thinking bout the odds of happiness
Success and sacrifice
In the case it’s all for nothing
And we’re just breathing til we don’t
Why not try and help each other ‘fore we go
I have walked so many miles
And I have finally reached the age where
My regrets have taught me so much more
Than all my accolades -
I’d tell you all about it
And what it means to me
But oh what fun would that be?
Oh oh what fun would that be?
